Canada’s Business Immigration Program seeks to attract experienced business people who will support the development of the Canadian economy. Individuals applying for immigration under the Business Immigration Program are selected based on their potential to become economically established in Canada.
Business immigration has been divided into two categories:
Federal Immigration Programs
Under Federal Immigration Programs a business immigrant is granted legal rights to settle and conduct business, including farming, anywhere in Canada.
Provincial Business Immigration
Many provincial governments have an existing agreement with the federal government allowing that province to play a more direct role in selecting immigrants who wish to settle in a particular province.
Federal Immigration Programs have multiple categories:
The Immigrant Investor Program seeks to attract and fast-track the immigration of experienced business people who are willing to invest capital in Canada. The processing time for an interview varies between six to nine months.
The Entrepreneur Program seeks to attract experienced business people who agree to own and actively manage business in Canada, thereby contributing to the Canadian economy and creating more jobs. Entrepreneurs and their dependants may be admitted to Canada under specific conditions, and subsequently monitored by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) after landing in the country.
Individuals who are self-employed must have the intention and ability to create self-employment with the means to make a significant contribution to the economy of Canada, or to create self-employment through the purchase and management of a Canadian farm.
There are also Provincial Nominee Programs through which Business Immigration may be conducted.
